Combustion optimisation for oil and coal fired power stations (OM series)


In the Oil and coal fired power stations, the elimination of low temperature corrosion and fouling allows a reduction in exit gas temperature resulting in significant fuel saving.

OM series OBL metering pumps, specifically designed for Magnesium oxide and magnesium dioxide are used worldwide in crude and heavy fuel oil fired and for Flue Gas Conditioning Equipment for Coal fired power stations.

These chemicals need both special design as well as suitable wetted materials. By working with the manufacturers of the magnesium oxide slurry, since 1980 OBL has developed the OM pump series, available with both spring and positive return mechanism (flow rates up to 68 LPH, 18 GPH and operating pressures up to 50 bar g, 725 PSI g).

Process used to clarify wine prior to bottling. This process removes yeast cells and other particles by passing the wine through a filter that is small enough to remove undesired elements including yeast cells, yet large enough not to trap the molecules of aroma, flavor and tannin. The filter aid for this type of process is called Kieselguhr, a diatomaceous earth (diatomite) it’s a form of silica composed of the siliceous shells of unicellular aquatic plants of microscopic size.

This filter aid mixed into either wine or beer is dosed by an OBL pump counter current to the main flow (centrifugal pump). This filter aid is particularly abrasive and needs both special pump design as well as special materials. OBL, in cooperation with the Italian leading manufacturer of these filters developed a complete line of pumps (H series), with, plunger, mechanical diaphragm and even hydraulic diaphragm pumps with max capacity up to 420 LPH (110 GPH) and pressure up to 15 bar g (200 PSI g).


Condensate dosing (low NPSH available applications)

In the industrial power plants condensate has to be analyzed to record the concentration of both salts and ammonia in the turbine.


Condensate has an NPSH available as low as 1 meter. OBL has designed a series of packed plunger metering pumps with full motion, NP series (according to API 675 STD guidelines) meeting such extreme suction conditions (flow rates up to 100 LPH, 26 GPH)


Distillation Column Process (any high temperature, up to 280 °C operating duty)

Fractional distillation is the separation of a mixture into its component parts, or fractions, such as in separating chemical compounds by their boiling point by heating them to a temperature at which several fractions of the compound will evaporate.


Distillation is the most common form of separation technology used in petroleum refineries, petrochemical and chemical plants , natural gas processing. By increasing the temperature of the product inside the columns, the different hydrocarbons are separated. The "lightest" products (those with the lowest boiling point) exit from the top of the columns and the "heaviest" products (those with the highest boiling point) exit from the bottom of the column.

The bottoms product is pumped out of the distillation column to a product storage facility.


OBL has designed pumps capable of operating up to 280 °C, coping with extremely low NPSH a values (as low as 2 metres) with both packed plunger as well as hydraulic diaphragm design.

  • Packed plunger TLF series, designed according to API 675 STD guidelines, with large cooling jacket and special plunger packing material to stand such high operating temperature.

  • Hydraulic diaphragm MMXAAHT series; this is a unique pump, as all OBL’s competitor use remote heads; however, even with remote heads the hydraulic oil (basically used for the swept volume only) goes off and loses its lubricating properties and MUST be replaced. OBL designed and realized a pump with metallic diaphragm and an internal hydraulic oil cooling systems that offers the following advantages Vs plunger pumps and remote head hydraulic diaphragm pumps:

  1. Leak free operation (Vs plunger pump)

  2. Built-in relief valve (Vs plunger pump)

  3. Hydraulic oil never goes beyond its max temperature for a long time and therefore lasts much longer than in a remote head design (Vs remote heads pumps

  4. Pumped chemical never changes its temperature (when constant temperature is a must)

  5. Compact design (Vs remote heads)

Viscous media dosing

In several industrial applications (Pulp&Paper, Textile, dye, chemical) extremely viscous media such as: glue, emulsion, coating agents, oils, greases etc are dosed.

OBL has designed a very reliable yet economical lost motion (spring return) packed plunger series (HV). These pumps are able to handle up to 5500 cP (up to 120 LPH @ 10 bar g max pressure- 32GPH @ 145 PSI g).
